Merry Christmas and Happy New Year:

As we come to the close of another year I am reminded of how busy this time of the year can be. As a word of encouragement let me say take time to refresh your self. I remember those years of going from planning that Thanksgiving dinner at church then the Christmas programs and services. Those activities are really wonderful but can be very demanding on us physically. So take some time to recovery, really its okay.

I want to share with you a letter we received from a couple that came to Mended Wings. We left out the names to maintain privacy. This letter is shared with their permission.

“I wanted to thank both of you for our time at Mended Wings.  Starting up any new ministry takes a lot of sacrifice and we can see that such is the case for Mended Wings as well.  Thank you for the time and the effort you put into the tasty meals, thank you for creating an environment where we did not have to cook.  So many times ministers get things and their wives don't, and as you know - the wives do just as much as the minister - and sometimes more!

Thank you for keeping this so affordable.  At this time in our life, we don't have the $ to do much.  Had Mended Wings come with a price tag, we probably would not have been able to come.  That was an incredible sacrifice on your part and the part of the churches that support Mended Wings.  If you ever would begin to charge, you would have good reason to and it is definitely worth it.

Thank you for seeing the greatest need that ministers who are struggling need - quiet time with the Lord.  I don't know anyone who can heal a person like Jesus.  To have a place to go where you have your own space on that beautiful deck of yours and time to read and pray or go for a walk and just be with the Lord is invaluable.  We both agree that, that was the best part of our time at Mended Wings.  Matter of fact, there were 4 things we thought ministered to us the most:  Our alone time with the Lord was first, then going to the program Noah, having wonderful meals prepared for us (otherwise we would not have had as much time with the Lord), and that first night getting to talk to you both and just 'get it all out.'  Thank you thank you thank you.

Thanks also for ministering to others out of your pain.  Most people don't turn their pain into ministry - they turn it into misery.  Thank you for taking what the devil meant for evil and bringing good out of it.  We have been blessed by your efforts and sacrifice.”

God Bless

Job's Great Lesson

Job 42:1-6

I've been listening to Dr. David Jeremiah's lessons on Job. What a blessing! He was covering this portion of Job and it was a real blessing to me. In Job 42:1-6, Job summarized his lessons learned through the difficult times of his life. Ryrie, in his study bible, put it this way, "If we know God, we do not need to know why He allows us to experience what we do. He is not only in charge of the universe and all its facets but also our life's and He loves us." In that love relationship I believe God does allow us to question for the sake of learning what God is teaching us but we must be careful about questioning His love. His ways are above ours. It may be a while before His purpose is revealed to us. Perhaps never will we understand what God is doing but we can grow to know Him more each day. Let's focus on Him, not the events around us.

Remaining Bible Centered
Wednesday, 07 July 2010 15:25

In the best of times, it is a battle for many of us to stay daily in the Word. Satan works so hard to keep us from the life giving power of the Word. Business creeps in and our minds become filled with the anxieties of the day and our time in the Word slowly disappears. I found this to be so true in my life as the struggles of life intensified. The source of strength that would take me through the struggle I was avoiding. My focus became the problem and not the Word of strength. The Psalmist said, “Delight in the law of the Lord day and night”. In doing this, we would be prosperous and be steady in our life according to the Psalmist. We must remain Bible centered and focused if we are to overcome even in the difficult situations we face. If you are struggling with a life issue, go to the Word. It is our source of strength as the Holy Spirit takes the healing balm of the Word and applies it to our life.

Never Alone
Saturday, 05 June 2010 19:55
One of the strangest things about ministry is that though you are surrounded by people you can become very lonely. I remember the prophet saying and thinking that he was all alone when God reminded him that there were many that had not given in and turned from God. I must admit that at times ministry became a very lonely place for me. Decisions had to be made that were not popular. Sermons had to be preached that did not set well with the congregation. These situations can sometimes cause us to feel isolated and  lonely. Many of the prophets felt this, so we are in good company when we get to this point. As we consider the prophets, we know that they all came through those times and continue with their calling. So must we. God will see us through. There may be times of loneliness, but God will never leave us and He will show Himself to us as we wait for him. Add a comment

You are Not Alone

sadThere are untold causes and issues and duties to which the pastor can give himself but, as Jesus succinctly said in Luke 10:42," But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her." What was Mary doing? She was sitting at the feet of Jesus. Brethren, we have given ourselves to every good and not so good cause. But one thing is needful!!

Pastors today are faced with more work, more problems, and more stress than at any other time in history of the church. This is taking a frightening toll on the ministry, shown by the following North American statistics:
